Physical Activity

Let’s get active, Elgin! Physical activity is fun, great for our health, can be social and is a great form of transportation. Whether you are in school, married with children, or retired, regular physical activity should be a part of everyone’s lifestyle. You can start off small then work your way up to be as active as you can be. You can take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for an evening walk, join a local sports league, play with your kids at a local park, or ride a bike to school or work – the possibilities are endless!

The main point is we all need to be more active, everyday.

Did you know…?

  • Approximately 50% of Canadian adults (aged 20 or over) are inactive!
  • Approximately 87% of Canadian children and youth do not meet the recommended 90 minutes of activity a day.
  • Many children average close to 6 hours of screen use (TV, video games, computer) a day, while 20% of adults average more than 3 hours of screen use a day.
